Child Remains Critical After Brooklyn Park Dog Attack
A child remains in critical condition after an attack by two dogs in Brooklyn Park.
Brooklyn Park police say they responded to a report of a dog attacking a child at 12:45 p.m. last Friday, July 19.
Arriving officers found two pitbulls attacking a three-year-old.
Officers fired their service weapons at the dogs, killing one and wounding another.
According to Brooklyn Park Police Inspector Elliot Faust, the child was transported to the hospital, and remains alive but in critical condition.
The investigation into the incident remains in its early stages, but Faust says the victim was visiting the owner of the dogs when attack occurred.
Meanwhile, the officers that fired their guns have not been placed on administrative leave, but the department is conducting a use-of-force review.
The results of the investigation will likely be discussed with a charging authority, such as the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office, to determine if criminal charges are warranted in the incident.
The dog that was wounded in the incident was transported to a care facility at the University of Minnesota. Faust said statutory procedures will determine the dog’s future.
