Charges: Robbery a Motive in Champlin Park Student’s Death
Four teenage boys are facing criminal charges after the shooting of Champlin Park High School student Diamond Manly.
On the morning of March 2, Ramsey police found Manly, 18, of Brooklyn Park, slumped over in a Buick with a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office announced that it arrested four teens for the shooting on March 18.
Those arrested include a 15-year-old, a 16-year-old and two 17-year-olds.
They were recently charged, with all four making their first court appearance on Thursday, March 20.
The Anoka County Attorney’s Office has filed petitions requesting that they face trial as adults, according to a spokesperson.
Two of the suspects are brothers.
Complaint: Teens Planned Robbery
According to court documents, Manly was attempting to sell marijuana vape cartridges to the suspects when the shooting occurred.
The suspects gathered that evening, deciding they wanted to buy a cartridge and rob someone.
They contacted Manly, who arrived to meet them near the 8700 block of 146th Lane NE in Ramsey just before 2 a.m.
The teens took an Uber to the planned robbery and stood on both sides of the street to ambush Manly.
As one of the suspects asked to see the cartridges, they shot Manly through his open window, killing him.
They stole his cartridges and about $160 before running from the scene and taking an Uber ride home.
Police later found bloodstained clothes, a gun and the drugs at one of the suspect’s homes.
