Changes Underway for Robbinsdale’s Restaurant Scene
Downtown Robbinsdale is known for its restaurant scene. Now, some big changes are coming to several of the restaurants that are downtown.
Wicked Wort Brewing Company recently opened their kitchen so they could add food to their menu.
“We wanted to get hard cider and wine,” says Steve Carlyle, the owner of Wicked Wort Brewing Company. “In order to get hard cider and wine, you have to have a kitchen so that’s what we did.”
Carlyle opened the first and only brewery in downtown Robbinsdale in an old TCF bank building in 2016.
“All the restaurants here play off of each other,” added Carlyle. “They are all growing.”
Across the street, Marna’s Café is expanding their footprint. They will be expanding into the old location of Pig Ate My Pizza.
“What we are going to do is combine the two spaces,” says Rolando Diaz, the owner of Marna’s. “We are going to break a wall to mix the Marna’s eatery and lounge. People can still come pull out the computer have a cup of coffee, instead of just dining in and having some food.”
Marna’s Cafe will operate normal hours during construction.
Travail Continues to Have an Impact
Pig Ate My Pizza, an offshoot of restaurant critic favorite Travail, closed on Easter weekend. They will be moving into the Travail building down the street and hope to open by mid-May. Meanwhile, Travail is building a new restaurant across the street that they hope will become a destination restaurant. The new Travail hopes to open in September.
Also in Robbinsdale, the St. Petersburg Vodka bar will be closing within the next week with no plans to relocate. The American Legion will be closing after Whiz Bang Days and constructing a new building in Crystal. There will be a new apartment building built at that site.
