Golden Valley’s CenterPoint Energy Projects
Winter may be fast approaching, but the road construction season hasn’t wrapped up quite yet. In Golden Valley, drivers will have to take some alternate routes over the next few weeks.
Two large construction projects kicked off this week along Winnetka Avenue and Glenwood Avenue in Golden Valley.
The work is part of CenterPoint Energy’s Belt Line project that involves replacing 61 miles of aging natural gas distribution lines across the Twin Cities.
“This pipeline was built originally in the 1940’s, 1950’s, with materials and methods that don’t meet current standards,” said Ross Corson, a spokesperson from CenterPoint Energy. “And so, to ensure the safety and reliability of the natural gas system distribution serving the communities here, we are replacing those old pipelines with new pipelines, and unfortunately it causes a little bit of an inconvenience.”
The Glenwood Avenue project will involve a lane shift. The work on Winnetka Avenue will require drivers to take a detour.
“We ask people, as always to be attentive when they’re driving,” Corson added. “Pay attention to the orange signs. Pay attention to the orange barrels.”
Work on both projects should be complete by early November.
