Charges: Maple Grove Man Fatally Shot Wife in “Dispute Over Money”
A Maple Grove man is accused of shooting and killing his wife. The incident happened March 10 at the couple’s Maple Grove home in the 8600 block of Quarles Road.
John Wiseman, 54, is charged with second-degree intentional murder. He remains jailed in lieu of $2 million bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday, March 24.
The woman killed, identified as Yang Liu, 40, was shot multiple times, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner said.
According to the criminal complaint, Wiseman called 911 and said his wife was dead. He did not mention that she had been shot. When police arrived they found Liu deceased.
The complaint, citing multiple witnesses, said the couple had ongoing “disputes over money and infidelity.”
A police search of the couple’s home turned up $5,000 cash and a passport hidden in a television antenna box. Police also found a letter indicating that Wiseman met last month with an estate planner.
The complaint also mentioned that one witness told police that Wiseman wanted a divorce, but was unwilling to divide their money and assets equally because he “earned his.”
