Car Thieves Ram Police Squad, Shed Rifle During Pursuit
Brooklyn Park police are searching for two people who crashed a stolen car into a police vehicle and fled on foot, ditching a rifle along the way.
According to Brooklyn Park police, an officer on routine patrol discovered a stolen vehicle at about 3 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of The Willows Apartments, located in the 6000 block of 65th Avenue N.
Police said officers boxed in the parked vehicle when the driver rammed into a squad car “causing significant damage.” The driver and another person in the vehicle ran away into a wooded area near Zane Avenue, police said.
“Officers pursued the suspects on foot and the rifle was recovered after being dropped by the driver during the foot pursuit,” read an alert sent out by Brooklyn Park police.
A police search that involved a K-9 unit and a drone were unable to locate the two that ran away.
Police say they recovered the rifle that was dropped, as well as a second firearm found in the stolen vehicle.
