‘Can Do Woofaroo’ Fundraiser Supports New Hope Nonprofit
A big event is happening in New Hope this weekend to help support people who rely on a four-legged friend.
Can Do Canines is hosting its annual “Can Do Woofaroo” event on Saturday. The one-mile fundraising walk and festival is open to both dog owners and the general public.
The event raises money for the New Hope nonprofit, which has trained hundreds of assistance dogs for people with disabilities.
The nonprofit says it costs about $45,000 to prepare one assistance dog, so this fundraiser helps in a big way.
“While the cost for each dog is about $45,000, we always give them to our clients free of charge,” said Melissa Herman, Can Do Canine’s event producer. “And that makes these fundraisers so critical, because every dollar we raise at our fundraisers get us closer to giving another person who wants an assistance dog the opportunity to have one.”
In addition to the walk, Saturday’s event includes live music, dog costume contests, assistance dog demonstrations and food.
The event runs from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Can Do Canines campus, at 9440 Science Center Dr., New Hope.
