Business Matters: Plymouth’s Harmoni Wellness
Women in the northwest metro now have a new clinic where they can go to seek care with a special focus on women experiencing menopause.
Experts say that roughly 55 million women in the United States are currently experiencing menopause and dealing with the associated symptoms.
Misty Bowe, 51, of Chaska is one of them.
“Brain fog, I have a really demanding job, and so that was difficult for me,” Bowe said, describing some of her symptoms. “Low energy, difficulty gaining muscle and losing weight.”
Bowe said she never got the answers she was looking for from her primary care doctor, so in August, she decided to visit Harmoni Wellness in Plymouth.
“Every appointment has been amazing,” Bowe said. “I don’t know about you, but I can text my provider and they’ll respond right away. I can email them, and they get back to me right away. So you really feel like you have a partner, sort of, in your health journey.”
That partner in her health journey is nurse practitioner, Ivy Emery.
Opening Harmoni Wellness
“We only serve women, that’s our scope,” said Emery, co-owner of Harmoni Wellness.
Emery opened Harmoni Wellness with another nurse practitioner, Andrea Zimmerman, in April of 2024.
“So we will ask about urinary symptoms, we’ll ask about sexual symptoms and vaginal symptoms, and sometimes that isn’t something that people offer up,” Emery said.
Those symptoms are medical topics that are not always openly talked about, so Emery’s hope was to create a space where women could feel comfortable discussing their symptoms and, ultimately, find a treatment that works.
“If we don’t ask the question, it’s just sort of that culture of silence that continues,” Emery said.
For patients like Bowe, she says she’s already starting to notice a difference.
“I haven’t had a hot flash in a month, and so that alone is amazing,” Bowe said. “Brain fog is definitely better, and what’s really been great is I am on hormone replacement therapy now, and I am starting to feel like myself again.”
One thing worth noting, Emery says that Harmoni Wellness does not take insurance because insurance doesn’t cover most of the services they offer. However, people can pay using their Health Savings Accounts (HSA).
