Brooklyn Park Wants to Recruit Younger Commissioners
Brooklyn Park hopes to recruit younger residents to the city’s boards and commissions.
City documents say there is a limited representation of 18 to 24-year-olds on city commissions and boards. The city council passed the first reading of an initiative that would partner with Brooklyn Bridge Alliance for Youth’s Youth OnBoard!.
The initiative would recruit young adults to apply for the city’s commissions. Brooklyn Bridge Alliance for Youth (BBAY) would provide training for the emerging leaders as well as readiness training for commissioners. The emerging leaders would be ages 14 to 24. There would also be seats on boards reserved for young adult members.
The council will vote on this issue again on Nov. 22.
