Brooklyn Park to Celebrate Liberian Independence Day July 26
An important day is coming up in Brooklyn Park to celebrate the contributions of Liberians living in the city. The city council issued a proclamation this week proclaiming Monday, July 26, as Liberian Independence Day in Brooklyn Park.
Liberia, which means “land of the free,” was the first African nation to gain its independence back on July 26, 1847.
Brooklyn Park has one of the largest populations of Liberians outside of the Republic of Liberia itself. An estimated 4,000 people of Liberian descent call the city home.
