Brooklyn Park Police: Woman Critically Injured By Own Dogs
There has been another dog attack in Brooklyn Park, the third such instance in recent weeks.
Brooklyn Park police said the latest incident occurred at the Huntington Place apartments in the 5800 block of 73rd Avenue North on Tuesday night.
The dogs were first identified by police as pit bulls, but the breed has since been determined to be American bulldogs.
According to police, officers responded to a woman yelling for help shortly before 9:30 p.m. When officers arrived, police immediately rendered medical aid to the woman who had been mauled by three dogs police said.
Police said the woman suffered “severe injuries.” She was taken to a nearby hospital where she was listed in critical but stable condition.
A Huntington Place security guard also sustained injuries to his left hand when attempting to stop the attack, police said, injuring one of the dogs.
“After an exhaustive effort, two dogs were taken into custody,” police said in a news release. “One dog was euthanized on scene due to aggression. The second dog was euthanized later due to the severity of injuries. The third dog is quarantined at an animal shelter.”
It’s not yet known what caused the dogs to attack. However, police said the dogs belonged to the victim and her boyfriend.
It’s also unclear if the three animals were kept at the property. Huntington Place allows up to two cats or dogs per apartment.
Brooklyn Park police also responded to two other recent dog attacks.
In one case, people used “hammers and pick axes” to try to rescue a small child from an attack. The child, 3-year-old Covil Allen, later died, That child was attacked by XL American Bullies, a cross between an American bulldog and a pit bull terrier, police said.
The other case involved a pit bull that tried to attack two children, police said. Fortunately, there were no major injuries in that case.
