Brooklyn Park Police: Suspect Arrested in Sexual Assault at Gunpoint by Trail
Brooklyn Park police credit the public with helping them arrest a suspect in a brazen sexual assault case that police say occurred near a park trail.
Police say the sexual assault was reported last Wednesday, April 24, at about 3:15 p.m. along the trail next to Shingle Creek between Unity and Regent avenues.
According to the preliminary investigation, police say the victim was forced at gunpoint into a wooded area where the assault took place. Police also believe the victim did not know the assailant.
Police released photos of the suspect, which showed a Black male, about 5’6″ tall, with a slender build. Police say the suspect was wearing diamond earrings, a black durag, black Jordan shoes and carried a black satchel at the time of the assault.
Detectives working the case credit the public with helping them make an arrest on Saturday.
“The Brooklyn Park Police Department would like to sincerely thank the public for all the information and tips provided, as they were critical in this case,” police said in a news release.
The suspect, a 21-year-old man from Brooklyn Center, is currently in custody held on a pending criminal sexual conduct charge.
