Brooklyn Park Police Seek Assistance to Solve Shooting, Carjacking Case
Brooklyn Park police announced on Friday afternoon that they are seeking the public’s help in identifying the driver of a dark-colored Buick Enclave who police say was at the scene of a shooting Thursday.
Police did not indicate that the driver of the Buick Enclave was the shooter who critically injured a man. But rather police say the driver “may have information critical to the case.”
The shooting occurred in the 5700 block of Brookdale Drive North at 12:10 p.m. Thursday. Shortly after that incident, police say the shooter carjacked a woman at gunpoint.
Brooklyn Park police released images of the Buick Enclave.
“Police detectives believe the driver of the dark-colored Buick Enclave may be associated with a ride sharing company (possibly Uber or Lyft) and may have information critical to the case,” read a statement released by police.
Minnesota Acts Now, a nonprofit that works to prevent violence, was on the scene trying to calm things down before gunfire erupted.
When officers arrived, police found a man who had been shot three times, including once in the face. He was taken to an area hospital, where police say he was listed in critical condition.
While Brooklyn Park police searched for the shooter, they learned a woman had been carjacked at gunpoint about a block from the shooting scene.
“The suspect at that point and time had run on foot. We had tried tracking with a canine, but due to the weather conditions yesterday, we weren’t able to have the endurance to go for a long period of time. We did not locate the suspect yesterday,” said Brooklyn Park police Inspector Elliot Faust.
The carjacking victim was not injured. Officers eventually found her vehicle about five blocks away unoccupied and stuck in a snowbank, police said.
Faust says the shooter is believed to be the same person responsible for the carjacking. Investigators also believe the shooter and the man shot knew each other in some way, Faust said.
An investigation into the motive of the shooting is ongoing.
Anyone with information on the case is encouraged to call the Brooklyn Park Police Department at (763) 493-8222.
