Brooklyn Park Police Respond to 3 Weekend Shootings; Total of 5 Shot, 1 Dead
Brooklyn Park police continue to investigate three separate weekend shootings that led to a total of five people getting shot, one of whom died.
One of the shootings occurred Sunday shortly before 4 p.m. in the 6900 block of 76th Avenue North. Brooklyn Park officers were in the area when they heard many gunshots, police said. The responding officers located three men who had been shot sitting in a parked vehicle outside an apartment complex. Brooklyn Park police say one of the men was pronounced dead at the scene. The other two men were transported to a local hospital.
No motive was given for Sunday’s shooting. As of Monday morning, police were still looking for the shooter.
Two Brooklyn Park Shootings on Saturday
Meanwhile, on Saturday, police responded to two other shootings. Officers were called to a home at 1:22 a.m. Saturday in the 7700 block of Georgia Avenue North. At that location, about a half mile away from Sunday’s shooting, police found a person with a gunshot wound to the chest. That individual was taken to the hospital, but is expected to survive, police said.
Brooklyn Park police called in a Minnesota State Patrol helicopter, which located two people who had fled into the neighborhood. Authorities also recovered a handgun and ammunition. Police say one man arrested is expected to be charged with second-degree assault.
Also on Saturday, a Brooklyn Park officer patrolling in the area of the 6300 block of Boone Avenue North heard gunshots at about 10 p.m. Several 911 callers notified police that a person was seen “limping away” from the scene. Officers located the injured person, who police say suffered non-life threatening wounds. That area too was searched with Minnesota State Patrol helicopter, as well as a police K-9. Police could not locate the persons involved in the shooting. They believe they may have left the area in a vehicle.
