Brooklyn Park Police Recover Guns, Arrest Teens in Shots-Fired Incident
Brooklyn Park police arrested four teens and recovered multiple guns, including a weapon that was thrown out of a car window, following a shots-fired incident at city park late Saturday night.
Police responded at 10:45 p.m. Saturday to multiple calls of shots heard at Willowstone Park, located on the east side of the city near the Mississippi River. When officers arrived, police say numerous vehicles fled at a high rate of speed.
One of the vehicles tried to escape fleeing north on West River Road into the city of Champlin. Police say the vehicle crashed at a roundabout at Hayden Lake Road.
Police arrested two teenage suspects and recovered two handguns following the crash. Officers also arrested two other teens at the park who also had guns in their possession.
In the aftermath, police found considerable evidence of gunfire at the park, including a window shot out at a park shelter. Police say investigators also recovered more than 30 shell casings.
No injuries were reported from the ordeal.
It’s unclear what led to the shots fired at the park.
Brooklyn Park police received assistance from numerous agencies during the call, including Champlin, Maple Grove and Osseo police, the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office and the Anoka-Champlin Fire Department.
