Brooklyn Park Police Issue Warning about Thefts from Vehicles
Police in Brooklyn Park are issuing a warning to people after a series of thefts from vehicles this week.
“What we’re seeing with these vehicles is they’re left unlocked,” said Inspector Matt Rabe of the Brooklyn Park Police Department. “They’re in areas that are dark and people are leaving valuables in their vehicles that are enticing to people.”
Police say several vehicles in Brooklyn Park’s Hartkopf neighborhood had valuables stolen from them early Tuesday morning.
Officers say what typically happens is thieves wander around neighborhoods in search of cars that are easy to access; meaning the door is unlocked or a window is left open.

Brooklyn Park police say the thefts from vehicles occurred in the neighborhood near Hartkopf Park.
In one instance this week, someone had a gun taken from their unlocked vehicle.
“A gun on the street has some value, and you know, obviously that could potentially lead to some serious harm,” said Rabe. “Those types of things are just not acceptable to be leaving those in vehicles. So, if we can follow those easy tips: don’t ever leave guns in vehicles, take things of value out of your vehicle, leave it in a well-lit area, you know, lock your car doors. Those are some tips that we can do to help all of us.”
Investigators encourage anyone in the Hartkopf neighborhood who may have captured something suspicious on their security cameras to share that footage with the Brooklyn Park Police Department.
