Brooklyn Park Police Introduce Safe Community Camera Program
Do you have a home security camera? If so, Brooklyn Park police are urging homeowners and business owners to register their cameras in a relatively new crime-fighting initiative.
The Safe Community Camera Program lets people register their external security cameras with the police department.
“Video surveillance cameras are a great tool for solving crimes and apprehending suspects,” police said in a press release. “We see examples everyday where video surveillance catches a suspect in the act of committing a crime.”
No footage is shared automatically. It simply lets police know where cameras are located, so if a crime occurs, police officers know where to turn quickly.
“The problem is the police don’t know where every camera is located that might have captured the incident or a part of it,” added Brooklyn Park police. “Going door to door during an investigation can be time consuming especially when time is of the essence to solve a crime.”
Any camera model can be registered with the city’s police department.
