Brooklyn Park Officer Injured Trying To Arrest Shooting Suspect
A Brooklyn Park police officer was injured early Monday trying to arrest a shooting suspect who attempted to flee the scene, police said.
Police were initially called at 12:30 a.m. to the Brook Gardens apartments and townhomes, located at 5540 69th Ave. N., on a report of a disturbance between two people who had gotten into an argument.
Investigators determined that the two people involved are related.
According to Brooklyn Park police, “an argument between the two escalated,” leading to one shooting the other. The person who was shot was struck in the hand, police said.
Upon arriving at the scene, police said officers “immediately located the suspect attempting to flee.”
During his arrest, police said the suspect assaulted an officer, causing minor injuries.
The injuries to the person who was shot are not life threatening, police said.
Jail records show the suspect, a 29-year-old St. Louis Park man, is being held without bail on a pending second-degree assault charge.
Court records show the suspect has a previous weapons conviction for carrying a pistol without a permit.
