Brooklyn Park Man Designs St. Paul Winter Carnival Buttons
A Brooklyn Park resident has designed this year’s St. Paul Winter Carnival buttons. Geno Okok created the four colorful buttons for the winter event.
According to carnival officials, Okok is the first person of color to design the buttons in the carnival’s 137-year history.
The artist says he’s honored to participate in the St. Paul Winter Carnival. Okok says the buttons needed to include diversity.
“Everywhere I go, it’s diverse, at least in my world. So, it’s very diverse. Coming from Brooklyn Park, I’m used to it, so I painted what I see all the time,” explained Okok.
Okok recently spray-painted a mural on the side of Waterside International Market in Brooklyn Park. He’s hoping the bright colors will lift the spirits of the neighborhood and bring the community together.
