Brooklyn Park Celebrates New Habitat ReStore, ‘Where Menards Meets Goodwill’
The city of Brooklyn Park celebrated the opening of the new Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity ReStore on Friday.
Described as where “Menards meets Goodwill,” ReStore is a nonprofit home improvement store and donation center that raises money for Habitat for Humanity housing projects.
“Any time you shop, donate or volunteer at Habitat, you’re putting money into our mission,” said Robin Henrichsen, director of ReStores. “Our goal is to have safe, stable and affordable homes for all and to increase home ownership within our community.”
Revenue generated last year at Twin Cities locations helped build five Habitat homes. Officials said the nonprofit has also helped about 50 families with housing in Brooklyn Park throughout its history.
Besides supporting housing needs, the nonprofit also promotes sustainability.
Last year, two existing ReStore locations in the Twin Cities kept more than five million pounds out of the landfill. Henrichsen said she expected the Brooklyn Park store to remove another one million pounds from the waste stream.

Donations Accepted at ReStore
ReStore offers a wide selection of home improvement items and furniture. That includes paint and paint brushes, chairs, cabinets, tile, plumbing, lighting and appliances.
“Anything, like a furniture item, if you would give it to someone else in your family, then that’s something we would take as a donation,” said Henrichsen.
ReStore does not accept electronics, or small household items. A full list of what’s accepted for donation is available on the ReStore website.
The store, located at 9300 Winnetka Ave. N. in Brooklyn Park, is open Tuesday through Saturday.
