Brooklyn Park Breaks Ground on New Tessman Ridge Apartments
The city of Brooklyn Park celebrated a new mixed-income housing project, the first the city has seen of its kind in three decades.
City leaders and project partners broke ground this week on the Tessman Ridge Apartments, a 71-unit complex that officials say addresses a “critical need” for affordable housing.
The apartment complex will be located near the North Hennepin Community College campus and a block away from a planned METRO Blue Line Extension light rail stop on West Broadway.
Described as a “transformative development,” the project is the result of three years of collaboration between Duffy Development, North Hennepin Community College and the funding arms of Hennepin County, Metropolitan Council and Minnesota Housing.
The project’s location is expected to benefit students.
“We have been committed to serving students and this community for a long time,” said North Hennepin Community College President Rolando Garcia. “By supporting this project, we are extending our reach beyond the classroom walls.”
The apartments will include a mix of studio, one-, two-, three- and four bedroom units. The precise location of the development is a 6-acre plot north of 85th Avenue, west of Tessman Parkway and east of College Parkway.
“Having the college so close, a walkable, accessible community, and the future light rail will make this a great choice for prospective Brooklyn Park residents,” said Jeff Von Feldt, CEO of Duffy Development.
The project is expected to be ready in the fall 2024.
