Brooklyn Park-Based National Guard Unit Deploys to Djibouti
Soldiers from a Brooklyn Park-based Minnesota National Guard unit are headed overseas for a nine-month deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
A deployment ceremony took place Sunday.
A group of five soldiers from from the 1903rd Acquisitions Team are bound for Djibouti, a small country on Africa’s northeast coast. The group will support a Navy unit with food supplies and administrative services.
The five-person group spent the past 18 months training for the mission, which will include supporting base operations in Somalia, Djibouti and Kenya.
“The 1903rd Acquisition Team’s role is vital to the military units in the region as they secure contracts for base operations to include food, water and other basic life support needs of the service members in Somalia, Djibouti and Kenya,” read a press release from the Minnesota National Guard.
This is the Brooklyn Park unit’s third deployment. Previous deployments were in 2009 and 2017.
