Brooklyn Center’s 50’s Grill Benefits from Pi(e) Day
Every day is a great day for pie, but there’s something special about eating pie on the 14th day of March.
“The first couple times it snuck up on us, cause you hear people talking about it on social media but didn’t really think much of it,” said Dan Williamson, general manager of the 50’s Grill in Brooklyn Center. “And then all of a sudden we started connecting the fact that, hey they’re coming in for pie because of Pi Day.”
About five years ago, social media helped turn “Pi Day,” the celebration of the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter – which is approximately 3.14 – into a day to celebrate pie.
Restaurants like the 50’s Grill in Brooklyn Center expect to sell about 50 pies on Pi Day, which is roughly five times the amount they would sell on a normal day.
The most popular sellers this time of year are apple, French silk, banana cream and strawberry rhubarb.
