Brooklyn Center World War II Vet Celebrates 103rd Birthday
A Brooklyn Center World War II veteran celebrated her 103rd birthday this week.
“How do I feel? I feel great. For 103, I feel good,” said Frieda Farley. “I just lived a good, clean life.”
Farley was born on June 14, 1920.
She celebrated her birthday on Wednesday at The Crossings at Brookwood, where she has lived for 27 years.
Before moving to The Crossings, she spent 30 years in a home near 61st and Colfax.
Farley enlisted in the U.S. Navy in World War II and was stationed in Oakland, California. She worked as a key punch operator in a distribution center.
She told CCX News that nightly meetups with other residents help to keep her going.
“We have our little meeting on the third floor,” she said. “Everybody has a little conversation, a little joke or something. [A] sing along.”
Farley also likes to play poker and bingo.
The Brooklyn Center City Council proclaimed June 14, 2023 to be “Frida Farley Day.”
