Brooklyn Center Woman Among Five Killed By Speeding Motorist
A Brooklyn Center woman was among five young women killed in a horrific crash caused by a speeding motorist in south Minneapolis.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner says Sahra Gesaade, 20, of Brooklyn Center died of multiple blunt force injuries.
Gesaade and four friends were returning from a night of errands when they were T-boned at an intersection Friday night.
The others killed were: Sabiriin Ali, 17, of Bloomington; Salma Abdikadir, 20, of St. Louis Park; Sagal Hersi, 19, of Minneapolis; and Siham Adam, 19, of Minneapolis.
U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar was among the many to give their condolences to the families of the victims.

The victims, who attended Dar Al-Farooq Islamic Center in Bloomington, were laid to rest Monday evening. A burial ceremony in Burnsville was attended by thousands of mourners from across the Twin Cities.

Driver Faces Multiple Felony Charges
Police say the driver, identified as 27-year-old Derrick Thompson, of Brooklyn Park, was allegedly traveling 95 miles per hour in a 55-mile-per-hour zone when he exited Interstate 35W and went through a red light, causing the crash. Thompson is the son of former state Rep. John Thompson.
According to police, a Minnesota State Patrol trooper spotted the suspect speeding on I-35W before the crash. Police say he exited the highway before the trooper could initiate a traffic stop. Police arrested him after he ran from the crash scene.
Charges in the case were still pending as of this publishing Tuesday afternoon.
