Brooklyn Center Schools to Wrap Up Blue Barn Donation Drive
The Brooklyn Center School District’s distribution center that popped up in the high school parking lot after the Daunte Wright shooting is now wrapping up operations. Organizers of the Blue Barn say they’ve had up to 200 volunteers help out more than 13,000 families in the last 10 days. Their last distribution day is Friday.
“This has been our curriculum and our focus,” said Josh Fraser, principal at Brooklyn Center Community Schools. “We’re going to start transitioning back to being a school and not a distribution center.”
Brooklyn Center Community Schools hosts a distribution event a few times a month at the Blue Barn. Fraser says that will continue.
“It’s been an amazing experience, personally and as a community to see the people who are outpouring their love and support for us,” said Fraser.
People who are still in need of help will be directed to one of the local nonprofits, like CEAP or CAPI.
