Brooklyn Center Police Chief Takes Oath
Garett Flesland, a longtime member of the Brooklyn Center Police Department, was sworn in as the city’s new police chief on Monday night.
After taking the oath, Flesland called it “an honor and a privilege” to serve the Brooklyn Center community.
“To our current officers and professional staff, our mayor, city council members, city staff, community members, I want you to know that I’m committed to earning this badge every day,” said Flesland, speaking at Monday’s Brooklyn Center City Council meeting. “I ask each of our officers and professional staff to join me in that commitment to earn your spot every day with your continued dedication, professionalism and pride.”
Flesland asked his officers and staff to follow three tenets: serve proudly, choose happiness and be professional.
The new chief replaced Kellace McDaniel, who retired in January.
Flesland was named chief earlier this month after what city leaders say was a “comprehensive process” that involved a nationwide search.
