Brooklyn Center Joins Initiative to Remove Racial Covenants
Brooklyn Center joined Robbinsdale and Golden Valley in the effort to make removing racial covenants from properties an easier process for residents.
The city council approved a resolution this week. You can listen to the discussion here.
One part of the resolution involved identifying which city-owned properties may have restrictive covenants. The city identified four properties, and work will begin on removing those covenants, if they are found to exist.
These covenants proliferated in the 1920s and 1930s to stop minorities from buying property in some white neighborhoods.
