Bridge Over Highway 169 Closed Indefinitely Due to ‘Significant Damage’
You may have to take a detour traveling between Maple Grove and Brooklyn Park. A highly used bridge is closed indefinitely after it was damaged by a truck.
The Brooklyn Boulevard/Elm Creek Boulevard bridge over Highway 169 was struck by a dump truck carrying a backhoe on Monday, city officials said.
According to a MnDOT spokesperson, several concrete beams sustained “significant damage.”
Engineers are assessing the damage to determine how long the bridge may be closed for.
More than 17,000 drivers travel over the bridge daily.
Highway 169 remains open. Drivers can still access southbound Highway 169 from the west and northbound Highway 169 from the east. However, you will not be able to cross 169 via Brooklyn Boulevard, city officials said.
Brooklyn Park transportation engineers urged drivers to consider using I-94 or 85th Avenue as alternate routes.
