Boy Fatally Struck by Metro Transit Bus in Brooklyn Park
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a young boy fatally struck by a Metro Transit bus in Brooklyn Park Wednesday morning.
The exact age of the boy was not known as of Wednesday morning.
According to Metro Transit police, the incident happened shortly before 6 a.m. on County Road 81 in Brooklyn Park near West Broadway Avenue.
Police say the boy was standing in the roadway when he was struck by a Metro Transit bus heading northbound.
Metro Transit Police, Brooklyn Park Police, Brooklyn Park Fire and the Minnesota State Patrol arrived on scene and began life-saving efforts, however, the boy was pronounced dead at 6:13 a.m.
Investigators say the bus driver stopped and cooperated with police. A Metro Transit spokesperson says the driver will undergo drug and alcohol testing and be placed on administrative leave during the investigation.
“This is an incredibly sad day at Metro Transit,” said Metro Transit General Manager Lesley Kandaras in a statement. “My heart goes out to the family of the child, our bus operator, and all those affected by this tragedy.”
No passengers were on board at the time of the incident.
Metro Transit Police are leading the investigation with assistance from the Minnesota State Patrol and Brooklyn Park Police.
