Blue Line Extension Project Reaches ‘Major Milestone’
The public can now weigh in on what’s being called “a major milestone” reached for the Metro Blue Line Extension project.
The Metropolitan Council and the Federal Transit Administration have released what’s called the Supplemental Draft Environmental Impact Statement (SDEIS). It’s a federally-required document that assesses the potential social, economic and environmental impacts of the light rail project planned between downtown Minneapolis and Brooklyn Park.
The report estimates it will cost $2.2 billion to build the light rail extension before contingencies.
Two upcoming hearings will allow the public to provide comment. One of them is scheduled for Tuesday, July 23, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Brooklyn Park Library, 8500 West Broadway Ave.
Written comments will also be accepted.
The public can submit comments online or by calling the SDEIS project hotline at 612-373-3970.
The comment period runs through Aug. 5.
The SDEIS is available for review at BlueLineExt.org.
