Bears Spotted Again in Elm Creek Park Reserve
If you have plans to visit one Maple Grove park, it’s a good idea to be aware of its resident bear population.
There’s been sightings of a mother bear and her three cubs making their home at Elm Creek Park Reserve, according to Three Rivers Park District officials.
Steven Hogg, senior wildlife manager with the Three Rivers Park District, said the bears have left their den and are looking for vegetation to eat.
“We recognize that this is an animal that can raise some concerns or some uneasiness in folks,” said Hogg. “But we have to also realize that there’s a lot of people in the state of Minnesota and elsewhere in the country that live with bears.”
Hogg said if you come across a bear, don’t panic.
Instead, stop and talk to the bear calmly, as you look at it and back away slowly.
Hogg also recommends keeping dogs on leashes when you are enjoying the trails.
