Beach in Plymouth Temporarily Closed Due to Unsafe Water
The dog days of summer are impacting local beaches. A dozen Hennepin County beaches are now closed due to unsafe bacteria levels.
The beach at East Medicine Lake Park in Plymouth is among those currently closed because of water quality issues.
According to officials, that beach is often impacted by waste from geese and other waterfowl, especially after heavy rainfall.
Beaches in Hennepin County are tested once a week.
As of Friday, nearby beaches, including the one at West Medicine Lake Park, remained open.
Health officials advise showering and washing hands after being on the beach or swimming in lake water.
Ingesting water with high bacteria levels can cause flu-like symptoms, such as vomiting, fever, cramps and diarrhea.
A full list of monitored beaches and water quality updates can be found on Hennepin County’s website.
