BCA To Investigate Brooklyn Park Officer-Involved Shooting
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating after a Brooklyn Park police shot a man in the early morning hours of Sunday, June 23. The shooting occurred while police were investigating the death of a child.
Police say they were dispatched to the 8700 block of Queens Garden North at 3:52 a.m. on a report of a baby not breathing.
Officers arrived at the home found a 7-month-old child in critical health condition.
The child later died at a hospital.
Officers were at the home at 4:41 a.m. — about 45-minutes after the they initially arrived — when they encountered a man armed with a gun.
An officer shot the man, who was transported to a hospital. He is expected to survive.
Authorities have not identified the child that died or the man who was shot. They also have not revealed if the man and the child were related.
It’s unclear what led to the shooting, but police say there’s body camera footage of the incident.
Police say they recovered a firearm from the scene.
The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office and the BCA are now conducting an investigation into the incident.
