BAE Systems Revealed as Maple Grove ‘Project Libre’ Tenant
The mystery over which company will take up space in Maple Grove’s former Gravel Mining Area has been solved.
BAE Systems, a British-based arms and aerospace manufacturer, plans to build a 248,000-square-foot facility northwest of Highway 169 and Interstate 94.
The development had been dubbed “Project Libre.” It’s expected to employ 500 people, making it one of the largest employers in the city. The new facility will provide manufacturing, warehouse, and research and development space.
BAE Systems is the second major company with plans for a new Maple Grove campus. Boston Scientific, Maple Grove’s largest employer, is currently constructing a 400,000-square-foot campus nearby.
A development agreement with Maple Grove that identifies BAE Systems calls for up to $600,000 in tax increment financing (TIF) to correct soil deficiencies at the development site. Minnetonka-based The Opus Group is the lead developer behind the project.
