Animal Humane Society Offers Discounts on Guinea Pig Adoptions
Anyone looking for a small, furry friend can get a rare discount on adoption fees this month at the Animal Humane Society.
There’s an abundance of guinea pigs spread across the Animal Humane Society’s three adoption centers. The Golden Valley, Coon Rapids and Woodbury locations have a total of 37 critters on hand. They’d like to cut that number in half.
To help make that happen, the Animal Humane Society is offering 25 percent off the normal $31 adoption fee through June 30.
“They are prey animals, so sometimes they get a bad rap because they are a little bit on the fearful side,” said Brittany Baumann, the Animal Humane Society’s public relations strategist. “But when they’re out, they’re playful, they’re sociable, they’re very friendly. And they’re very interesting critters, so they do make for really good pets.”
Guinea pigs need to have their cages cleaned every day and experts recommend about an hour of daily play time.
The pet also does well in pairs, so Baumann says you’ll get an even larger discount if you adopt two at once.
