Animal Humane Society Consolidates Shelters, Temporarily Closing Golden Valley Location Sunday
The Animal Humane Society will temporarily close all shelter locations and transport animals to the Golden Valley site before shutting down that location on March 22. The shelter says animal adoptions are up, with people coming in to adopt while they can. The nonprofit will continue providing essential services to support the animals during the closure. A team of veterinary and animal care staff will stay at the Golden Valley site during the duration of the closure to care for the animals who remain.
The Animal Humane Society says they are temporarily closing out of an abundance of caution and concern because of the coronavirus impact.
- Coon Rapids will close at 8 p.m. on March 19
- St. Paul will close at 8 p.m. on March 20
- Woodbury will close at 6 p.m. on March 21
- Golden Valley will close at 6 p.m. on March 22
Adoptions will continue at each site until they are closed. The organization is working to place as many animals as possible in foster care.
During the temporary closure, other operations will continue. Humane investigations, intake of surrenders and stray animals focusing on urgent and emergency cases, and some select public veterinary services at the Golden Valley location.
The Walk for Animals, which was previously scheduled for May 2, has been changed to a virtual event.
