Amazon Expands Same-Day Grocery Delivery with New Golden Valley Facility
Amazon has expanded its same-day and grocery delivery operations in the Twin Cities with a new facility in Golden Valley.
The online retail giant can now make same-day deliveries of high-demand items within an 800 square-mile area that includes downtown Minneapolis, St. Paul and the south metro.
“Now there’s going to be more options online for our customers to get,” said Mike Andrea, site leader at the new Golden Valley facility. “If you have to get dog food in the morning or diapers in the morning and you can’t go to the store because it’s closed, that’s what sub same-day is for. We can have it to your door the next morning. And so now that availability — maybe before you have to wait for two-day shipping or you have to go out somewhere, we’re now doubling [that capacity] to have the fastest delivery in the cities.”
It’s Amazon’s sixth same-day grocery delivery facility in North America.
There’s currently about 250 people working at the facility, but Amazon expects to employ between 500 and 600 people during the fall and winter holiday seasons.
Starting wages are about $22 per hour.
Andrea said Golden Valley offers a central location near Minneapolis allowing easier access for delivery drivers and other employees.
“I think in terms of significance for Amazon, it’s a big footprint in our community to say, we want to grow and we want to put our most innovative department right here in Golden Valley and in the Twin Cities,” Andrea said.

The new 185,000 square-foot facility is located at 751 Douglas Dr. N.
According to Golden Valley City Council Member Maurice Harris, the property sat vacant for seven or eight years before it was redeveloped into the Amazon facility.
“This is a great add for the city,” Harris said.
Amazon has another same-day delivery facility in Brooklyn Park.
