Allina Health Wraps Up COVID-19 Vaccination Site in Golden Valley
Allina Health has announced it will end its mass vaccination site at Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute in Golden Valley.
Nearly 1,000 people a day received doses at the site when vaccinations started back in January. It has since dropped to about 150 people a day. Allina Health says it’s shifting the vaccinations away from mass sites and back to primary care clinics.
“Where we are now is our mass hubs are not needed for that amount of patients in a day because we’ve saturated that market,” said Maggie Borer, director of nursing at Allina Health. “We still have vaccines available in all of our primary care clinics. We have all three vaccines and we’re able to incorporate those sites to be able to do the quantity that’s left for our population.”
According to Minnesota Department of Health statistics released Friday, vaccinations have stagnated somewhat with 52 percent of the state’s total population having received at least one dose of vaccine. For those who are eligible to receive at least one of the three vaccines currently available, ages 12 and older, the percentage rises to 62 percent.
During the mass vaccination process, a few dignitaries, like Minnesota Department of Health Commissioner of Health Jan Malcolm, received a dose of the vaccine from the site.
