Aaron Wagner to Resign from Robbinsdale City Council
A member of the Robbinsdale City Council has announced that he’s stepping down at the beginning of January.
Aaron Wagner, who represents Ward 4, submitted a letter of resignation to the city earlier this month, stating that Jan. 5, 2026 would be his last day.
“It has been a pleasure serving with you all and I will miss working together,” Wagner said in his letter. “I have the utmost confidence in each of you to guide us to a better future. My one ask is that you center the needs of working class people in your decision making. After all, the wealth of our city is generated by their labor and taxes.”
Wagner told the City Council during the meeting on Dec. 16 he recently became engaged to his partner and that they’re planning to move in together. But, “due to some unchangeable circumstances, that move would be outside of Robbinsdale.”

He went on to say, “there is a world when I could serve the remainder of my term, but I thought it would be unfair to my neighbors who deserve a representative that will be here for the long haul.”
Wagner has served on the Robbinsdale City Council since 2023. His term was set to expire Dec. 31, 2026.
Some of the accomplishments Wagner highlighted during his three years in office include his role in helping to hire a sustainability coordinator, helping to develop a master plan for Robbinsdale’s park system and being part of the municipal consent process for the Blue Line Light Rail Extension.
Among the things Wagner would like to see addressed after he leaves office are improvements to sidewalk infrastructure and reduced traffic speeds on Robbinsdale roads where speeding is an issue.
The city council is expected to formally accept Wagner’s resignation at its Jan. 6 meeting. The council will then work with city staff to appoint a new Ward 4 member to serve the remainder of the term.
Appointment of that new council member would take place during Robbinsdale’s City Council meeting on Feb. 3, 2026.
