‘A Great Asset,’ Osseo Approves Summer Youth Sports Programming
The Osseo City Council has approved funds for what some consider to be one of the best deals around for youth sports.
The city pays roughly $1,100 to subsidize summer youth sports programming in partnership with Twin Cities-based Revolutionary Sports. Families of kids ages 3 to 10 can sign up for four-week sessions and pay under $50 for residents and just under $60 for non-residents.
“I think it’s a great asset to the residents of Osseo and outside residents of Osseo,” said Osseo City Council member Ashlee Mueller at this week’s city council meeting.
Mueller said similar programs in other cities can cost three times as much.
“I appreciate that we’ve worked hard to keep these prices affordable for both residents and non-residents,” said Mueller.
The vote to approve the programming was unanimous.
Osseo City Council member Mark Schulz said the cost for youth sports program is “a drop in the bucket” compared to the costs for programming the city offers seniors.
“When we look at the nature of this particular program, when we look at who this is serving, our families, our young families, I think it’s important to be equitable,” said Schulz.
The 2024 Osseo youth sports program starts in May and runs through early August. Registration is underway.
All programs will be held at Osseo’s Sipe Park on Monday and Wednesday nights. Sports offered include soccer, tennis, baseball and basketball.
