4.2” of Snow Falls, Elm Creek Tubing Hill Opens Saturday
For those of you hosting family and friends from out of state, your guests will be treated to a winter wonderland.
More than four inches of snow fell in parts of the northwest suburbs on Thursday — 4.2 inches was officially measured in New Hope and reported to the National Weather Service.
The snowfall will make for fun winter activities in the coming days.
Elm Creek Park Reserve Snow Tubing Hill Opens Saturday
One of those places impacted by the snow is Elm Creek Park Reserve, which will open up its snow tubing hill on Saturday at 10 a.m.
It’s the first time in a couple years that it has been able to open before Christmas.
“Tubing is one of those activities the whole family can do,” said Julie Matzek, facility supervisor with the Three Rivers Park District. “And the best thing when you get to the bottom, there’s a magic carpet. You just stand there, hold on to your tube and it brings you right back up to the top.”
Matzek says the inner tubes are in high demand and encourages visitors to make reservations in advance before coming.
Robbinsdale’s New Snow-Plowing Protocol Takes Effect
Whenever there’s a significant snowfall, some cities declare “snow emergencies” for parking rules on city streets.
The city of Robbinsdale, however, will no longer declare a snow emergency.
Instead, such a declaration will automatically take effect anytime there is a snowfall of at least two inches.
In Robbinsdale, that means no parking is allowed on public streets and alleys until they are plowed curb to curb.
