Zanewood Rec Center Staff Excited for Expansion in Brooklyn Park
Brooklyn Park City Council recently approved funding for an expansion at Zanewood Recreation Center, and program directors at the facility are excited about the future.
“We want to make sure that we have the facility and programs and staff that can be able to support anyone that wants to come to Zanewood Recreation Center,” said Parks and Facilities Director Marcus Hill. “Really, the youth and the community feels like this is a safe place to be and a safe place for their children to be.”
The expansion will be a second building on the site to specifically offer programming for teenagers, while the existing building will be renovated and used primarily for elementary school-aged programs. The new building will also include a full-size basketball gymnasium, something the city doesn’t currently have. The programs at Zanewood use the connected gymnasium that is part of Zanewood Community School.
“We’re really, really excited about that,” said Hill.
Hill said construction could begin as early as this fall and completion could be as early as the end of next summer.
“I think this community also needs something new and something they can take great pride in, and we just so happen to be able to deliver on that promise,” Hill said.
