Robbinsdale Offers Flocculation Plant Tours Again This Summer
Robbinsdale will once again offer tours of its flocculation plant, located on the southeastern shore of Crystal Lake.
“It essentially pulls water in…and then it puts a chemical in the water to mix, and it binds to phosphorous and other excess nutrients and pollutants, and then it then sinks to the bottom, where it’s permanently removed, and then the clean water gets put back into the lake,” said City of Robbinsdale Water Resources Specialist Jenna Wolf. “So, essentially what a water flocculation treatment plant does, it cleans the water in the lake.”
Wolf says this is critical for Crystal Lake, which is on the impaired waters list due in part to the build-up of so many nutrients. She said the flocc plant is helping, somewhat.
“This lake has always been a part of Robbinsdale, and part of that history is really unique, and all of the things that lead up to the lake to be where it is today, so (the tours will) kind of give residents a good understanding of where the lake used to be, and what it is now, and what we’re trying to get it to be in the future,” said Wolf.
The tours will begin on June 13 and will happen every other Friday at 10:00 a.m.

“A lot of people wonder where their tax dollars go, and this is a really great example on how their tax dollars are helping clean up our lakes,” said Wolf.
