Robbinsdale Mayor’s Minutes: Energy Action Plan Improves Energy Efficiency
Robbinsdale Mayor Bill Blonigan says a new Energy Action Plan came together with help from city staff, community members, and Xcel Energy.
“It provides an immediate opportunity to improve energy efficiency, thus saving on energy cost and preventing a lot of carbon emissions from happening,” said Blonigan. “Our goal is to avoid an additional 30 percent of greenhouse emissions, compared to business as usual by 2030. This will save our people $1.3 M in additional energy costs, which is equivalent to removing 1,800 vehicles from the road, so it’s an ambitious plan. I think it will work.”
It’s also budget time in Robbinsdale.
“The budget process is one of the most complicated things the city and city council can do, and we started this process in March,” said Blonigan.
The process included meetings with department heads as well as city council members to establish priorities and address staffing concerns. The preliminary budget should be set by September with public hearings planned for December as the city nears the final budget.
Before then, one event to put on your calendar is the Birdtown Boo Bash in Sanborn Park on October 6. Learn more here.
