Robbinsdale Mayor Talks Budget Process, Parks Improvements
Robbinsdale Mayor Brad Sutton talked recently with CCX Media’s Dave Kiser about the city’s budget process, updates to parks–including renaming Sanborn Park–and other priorities.
Budget Process
The city’s preliminary budget shows an approximate 8% levy increase for 2026.
“What that means is that’s an extra $14 a month for the median house in Robbinsdale,” said Mayor Sutton. “We are hoping to come in under that number. Every year, taxes need to go up. It’s just the cost of everything goes up.”
The Truth in Taxation meeting takes place on December 2.
Sanborn Park
Sutton said the city received more than 200 submissions for a new name for Sanborn Park.
“Thank you, Robbinsdale residents, for stepping up to the challenge and submitting your suggestions,” said Sutton.
City Council will discuss the next steps in the process at its October 14 work session, said Sutton.
Otherwise, storm water improvements are expected to begin at Sanborn in late October, and Manor Park playground is closed while a new play structure is installed.
New Public Works Facility
Among the legislative priorities city leaders have identified for 2026 include possible funding toward a new public works facility. The current facility is outdated, said Sutton.
“It’s too small for the equipment we have,” he said. “So we’re looking at a new facility.”
