Plymouth Mayor’s Minutes: Wosje Prepares for State of the City Address at Discover Plymouth
Plymouth Mayor Jeff Wosje sat down with Dave Kiser to talk about an important day in Plymouth that’s coming up on Saturday, Apr. 15 at the Plymouth Community Center Fieldhouse. It’s the day of two events in the city: State of the City and Discover Plymouth. They also briefly covered a large road construction project that’s starting soon.
State of the City
Wosje delivers his annual State of the City address as part of the larger Discover Plymouth event. He said he wants to talk about what good government looks like.
“It seems that so much of our politics and our government is so polarized these days. But what happens when the city works together and the council and our staff work together? What does that look like? How does it function? And what are the results when you do have good government?” Wosje said.
Additionally, Wosje plans to cover investments in quality of life and updates about firefighter and police officer operations. He will also talk about the city’s successes of the past year and share a look ahead to Plymouth’s future.
The State of the City address starts at 10 a.m.
Following the presentation, join Wosje and council members for a meet and greet from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
“We’ll be meeting people that want to meet the council, especially our three new council members,” Wosje said. “So people that want to come meet the council or talk to me, there’ll be an hour and a half after the [presentation.]”
Discover Plymouth
Discover Plymouth features local businesses, community groups, non-profit organizations, and community services. In addition, attendees can learn about recreation programs, city services, volunteer opportunities, and more. This year, the location was moved to the Plymouth Community Center Fieldhouse which allows for a more expansive event, including inflatables for kids.
“There’ll be a kids’ area there. We’re going to have food trucks this year. There’ll be a lot more. There’ll be “touch-a-truck” for kids. So we’ll have some of the maintenance trucks, big trucks, there,” Wosje said. “And it’s geared to bring your kids and your family.”
There will also be an indoor marketplace with local vendors selling homemade and handmade items.
Discover Plymouth is Saturday, Apr. 15 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Plymouth Community Center Fieldhouse.

Highway 169/County Road 9
Lastly, Plymouth is preparing for a large road construction project beginning soon. The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is replacing the County Road 9 (also known as Rockford Road and 42nd Avenue) bridge over Hwy. 169 beginning in April. Construction lasts until November. Wosje is optimistic that the project has great benefits.
“I think the most important thing is they’re going to have bike and pedestrian trails on both sides of that bridge that goes over 169, and they’re going to change the signaling system around. They’re going to change the ramps around. So there’s a lot of change going to happen to that intersection,” Wosje explained.
