New Hope Mayor Says City Budget Increase “Lowest In Area”
New Hope Mayor John Elder told CCX Media’s Dave Kiser recently that the city’s proposed and preliminary tax levy increase to fund the city’s 2026 budget is the “lowest in the area” at 4.93%.
“It can only go down from here,” said Mayor Elder. “It can not go up.”
The public is welcome to offer input at a city council meeting on Tuesday, November 26 at 6:30 p.m. The final approval of the city budget is expected on December 9.
One activity the city is planning on bringing back this winter is a puzzle exchange. The city’s parks and recreation department recently invited people to drop off jigsaw puzzles and pick-up ones to try.
“We received over 500 puzzles,” said Elder. “We’ll be doing another puzzle exchange in February, and it took off far more than I imagined it would have.”
Another big event the city is looking forward to is the starting position of this year’s Tri-City Santa Parade, which lines up emergency and other city vehicles from Crystal, New Hope, and Robbinsdale, and winds through the three cities with Santa Claus on board.
“It’s a great event,” said Elder.
This year’s parade is on Saturday, December 6.
