Mayor’s Minutes: Robbinsdale’s Brad Sutton
Robbinsdale Mayor Brad Sutton talks with CCX Media’s Dave Kiser about changes to parks and the on-going budget process.
Parks Master Plan
Sutton said work continues on improvements to the city’s parks.
“I think people thought it may be starting this summer,” Sutton said in reference to improvements to Sanborn Park. “That’s going to possibly push into next year. We’re waiting on some grant funding to do some things around getting the tennis courts in from the USTA and there’s some construction work that needs to happen to update the storm culverts coming into the park.”
He said the parks plan also includes a new playground at Manor Park and a new fitness court at Lakeview Terrace.
Renaming Sanborn Park
The city continues its efforts to rename Sanborn Park.
In 2024, the city decided to rename it after research by the company Just Deeds found that the name linked to a company that had racially-restrictive covenants placed on the deeds of many homes in that neighborhood.
“The process last year felt a little exclusive, like I think people really didn’t aware that the (renaming) was going to happen until names had already been submitted,” said Sutton. “So we wanted to make sure community got involved and got it out there and made it a little bit easier to submit your ideas for the park renaming.”
