Mayor’s Minutes: Robbinsdale’s Bill Blonigan
Robbinsdale Mayor Bill Blonigan talked recently with CCX Media’s Dave Kiser about the city’s preliminary budget approval and the addition of solar panels to some city facilities.
The city has given preliminary approval to a 2025 budget that includes a 10 percent levy increase. But residents have a chance to weigh in online, and Blonigan said he is sure the increase will not be as high.
“I doubt it will end up (at 10 percent),” he told Kiser. “All council members are supportive of getting this down to eight percent or even a six percent increase.”
Blonigan said the city is close to activating the solar panels installed on the new water treatment facility, and is just waiting for XCel Energy to hook them up. Also, city hall will have solar panels installed perhaps by the end of the calendar year, and the cost of the installation could be covered as much as 90 percent by state and federal grants and other programs.
“This will make us more sustainable and we will save money on electricity for the city,” he said.
